Recovery Program |

|
As a result of the recent severe flooding and tornado damage in Iowa the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association, a Not-for-profit IRS 501 c 3 charitable organization will be working closely with those communities located along the historic Grand Old Highway. Money received will be used toward our Recovery (Economic Development) Projects. We will be working to help ensure that many will receive the assistance they need through this most difficult time. Our priority will be, but not limited to, those small family businesses located in historic structures along U.S. Route 6, aka the Grand Army of the Republic “Memorial” Highway. We are all volunteers, either retired or keeping our day jobs. If you live in a Route 6 area that has been affected by this natural disaster we would like to hear from you. We are currently looking for volunteers and student interns. Federal law permits donors to claim tax deductions for their financial contributions. The Association is on file with the Iowa Secretary of State. Our Federal ID Number is; 91-2136205. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions. Thank you for your support. Russell J.

Welcome Colorado !!

Mary
M. Tomky is the Interim Executive Director of the Colorado U.S. Route 6
Tourist Association. She has been an active member of the Association
since Joe Hurley walked through Holyoke back in 2004. Mary is also the Executive Director of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and works closely with the community. Mary is a very busy person as the Secretary / Treasurer of the Colorado U.S. Route 6 Heritage Corporation. Their goal is to establish a Regional US Route 6 Museum and Visitors Center in Holyoke. This has become a real challenge, however, they should have their Not-for-profit IRS 501(c)(3) within the near future. This is all part of their heritage awareness program to encourage vacation travelers to take the “6” and preserve our American Heritage along the Grand Old Highway. This is also part of the U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association’s effort to establish Regional Museums and Visitor Centers in all 14 Route 6 states. Living in a small town she is aware of the need to establish new businesses that can provide employment opportunities for graduating high school and college students. She would welcome hearing from Sr. high school and college students that would be interested in the Association’s Internship Program. If you are interested in being an active member or would like information about the Association contact Mary Tomky at Colorado@Route6tour.com or at the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce at; holyokec@pctelcom.coop |

CONNECTICUT JOINS THE TEAM!
Its been two years since semi-retired newspaper reporter Joe Hurley walked all 3,652 miles (coast-to-coast) along the Grand Old Highway. He is currently completing a book about his adventure and is now writing stories for American Road Magazine. Joe now has a new challenge as the Executive Director of the
Connecticut U.S. Route 6 Tourist Association. He would like to hear
from those individuals and communities that are interested in the
economic development and preservation of our American Heritage along
the historic highway. What's New California!!
Mr. Hann is a past two term Mayor of the City of Lancaster. He is retired from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and is currently working part-time as a fire safety consultant with the movie industry. Fred is definitely Route 6 to the core. He enjoys history and driving the back roads. His
goals are to create community involvement in establishing a Route 6
economic development and cultural preservation plan for the cities
and towns located along the Grand Old Highway in California. If you are interested in learning more about the California Association, or how you can become a member or student intern, you can contact Fred Hann at: california@route6tour.com
